Thanks to his vision and management skills, he expanded the Bata organisation to more than 6 times its original size. Before the war, Jan Antonín was considered one of the richest men in the world. In 1938 he employed 60,000 people, 4 years later he employed 105,770.

What will you learn in the new podcast?

History suggests the story of a righteous man who, even in the most difficult of times, did not sell out and remained true to his principles. Bata and his employees donated 30 million crowns to the national defence of Czechoslovakia. It was the first and largest such donation.

Candidate for President.

For a while, Jan Bata was talked about as a possible candidate for the presidency of Czechoslovakia. The Nazis wanted to meet him and see how inclined he would be to hold a high political position and how his tenure would help the interests of the Third Reich.

Sale of plants in Germany and emigration to the USA.

He did not stay long in America. They didn't extend his and his family's visas. Jan Bata was on the blacklist of the Allies, where he was put after pressure from competitors, but also because of a number of misunderstandings. It is certainly worth mentioning the incident from Norway, where he had a million pairs of shoes in his boat. The British invited him to sell them the shoes for free. John refused.

Settlement of the jungle in Brazil.

The plan was clear - clear the jungle, sell the timber, buy cattle and start making shoes out of the cattle. He started to establish towns and build businesses here. He had planned ten, but only managed four: Batatuba, Bataypora, Bataguasú and Mariapolis.

Nobel Prize proposal.

In 1957, the Brazilians nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize for all that Jan Antonín had done and built. He did not accept the nomination out of modesty. He passed it on to a Brazilian friend - the president there.
